In this new blog series, Centering Humans and Culture: Road from Intern to Full-time, we get to know employees who started at 3Q/DEPT as interns and have moved up the ranks by accepting no limits. First, let’s meet Phoebe Martell-Crawford, Marketing Manager at 3Q/DEPT.
How did you find 3Q/DEPT to become an intern? What specifically drew you to the company?
knew someone at 3Q/DEPT and after my sophomore year of college, I knew I wanted to gain internship experience, so I was referred by them to a position on the marketing team. As someone early in my career, I didn’t know what I wanted or expected from a corporate job, and I was drawn to being able to go into an office and working space. The environment, camaraderie, and employees were inclusive and exciting, and I knew it was a place I wanted to grow.
How was your time as an intern and how were you trained or mentored during that time?
As a part-time intern, I had the flexibility to work during college while I studied abroad in the Galapagos, and then while I was living in Oregon working part-time at Mt. Bachelor teaching ski lessons. My managers and team trusted me as an intern to accomplish my work while also enjoying life; in my opinion, that is the best mentoring anyone can offer. The independence I was given gave me the desire to complete my tasks to the best of my ability, ask questions when I had them, and keep projects moving for the greater good of the team.
What is your role now and how did you grow into your current role at 3Q/DEPT from your internship?
After moving back to Vermont, I knew I wanted to start my career, and I was offered the opportunity to join 3Q/DEPT full-time as a Marketing Coordinator. I was working closely with the communications team, but I knew that I would eventually want to work with the lead generation team to learn as much about all aspects of marketing as possible. I was offered the role of Marketing Manager in April 2022 and am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given.
When did you know you could accept no limits at 3Q/DEPT and move into a full-time role at the company? What about the company made you feel confident that this was the right choice for your career?
I knew I could accept no limits at 3Q/DEPT when my managers, Linda Warnock and Molly Shotwell, showed their belief and trust in me. Having their confidence encouraged me to believe in myself and know that I am fully capable of owning it and accepting no limits. This is said in almost every Humans of 3Q/DEPT blog, but I felt confident this was the right choice for my career because of the people here. The connections I have made and continue to nurture are paramount.
